The People We Meet

Life is a long road filled with people we never expected to meet. Some walk beside us for a while, some stay forever, and some leave, but not without leaving a part of themselves behind. Every person we meet adds something—colour, warmth, chaos, or lessons. Sometimes, they leave us questioning, sometimes, they make us feel alive.

In childhood, friendships are simple. You meet someone in school, bond over cartoons, share lunch, and suddenly, you’re best friends. There’s no overthinking, no fear of losing them. But as we grow, people come into our lives in more complex ways. Some stay, some fade, and some leave scars. Yet, each of them shapes us, teaching us things we never knew about ourselves.

Then comes the phase when you meet people who challenge your views, push you out of your comfort zone, and make you see the world differently. Maybe it’s a college friend who introduces you to poetry, a coworker who teaches you kindness, or a stranger who leaves an impact with just one conversation. These people change you without even realizing it.

And then, there are the special ones—the ones who feel like home. The ones who make the world a little softer, a little brighter. They come in unexpectedly, sometimes when you aren’t even looking. They make you believe in love in ways you never imagined—romantic or otherwise. They remind you that life is worth living for the people you haven’t even met yet.

But life is unpredictable, and not everyone stays. Some leave, and it hurts like hell. The absence of someone who once meant the world to you is a pain that words can’t describe. But in time, you realize that even those who left gave you something—a memory, a lesson, a version of yourself that wouldn’t exist without them.

It’s a beautiful thing, this journey of meeting people. You never know who’s coming next. Maybe someone who will change your dreams, someone who will teach you to heal, or someone who will love you in a way that makes you understand why nothing worked before. The thought of that keeps me going—because life is, after all, about the people we meet and what they leave behind in us.

So, here’s to the strangers who turn into family, to the ones who leave but stay in our hearts, and to the unknown faces we’re yet to meet. Life is messy, unpredictable, and often painful, but isn’t it also breathtakingly beautiful because of the people in it?
